Highland Dress - men - women - rentals Kilts - Women's Styles
The traditional Scottish kilt is worn exclusively by men--but women can wear
a tartan skirt if they wish to have a skirt in their plaid. At Great Scot Shop,
we have several styles of plaid skirts from which you can choose. Each one comes
in all of the clan tartan patterns, so you can match your favorite kilt-wearer
and show your support for clan and country as well.
All of our plaid skirts are made from top-quality materials and priced with an
eye toward economy. For a look at all of our styles and patterns, further
explore our website. If you have any questions about style, fit, or where you
might wear a specific style of plaid skirt, call us at 800-572-1073. We pride
ourselves on being one of this country's best resources for all things Scots!
Please make sure the information is accurate. Follow these steps exactly to ensure that your kilt will fit properly. Don't hesitate to call if you have any questions.
The standard women's skirt is called the semi-kilt.
This skirt is hand-pleated with deep pleats, is fully lined, and comes
to just past the wearer's knee. Similar to this skirt is the Fiona,
which has a greater number of pleats, but is also fully lined and
knee-length. Those looking for a longer skirt should try a hostess
skirt, which is floor length and goes perfectly with a sash and/or jabot
blouse.
Standard Kilted Skirt - $195
Semi-Kilt - $285 This is the ladies version of the gentelman's kilt.
Neither the standard or semi-kilt are lined. The semi-kilt has extra deep pleats and is hand pleated and fully lined for comfort.
Fiona - $250 Pleated all the way around and fully lined.
Those looking to be a bit more daring may want to look at a mini skirt or the
Billie skirt. The miniskirt is essentially the standard semi-kilt, but
shorter--its maximum length is 18 inches, which means it falls well above the
knee. A more modern twist, the Billie skirt, is worn a bit below the navel and
features a band around the top in the same plaid pattern as the rest of the
skirt.
Billie skirt - $99 The Billie skirt is for the fashion adventurous who want a contemporary style while wearing their family tartan. This skirt is also for those who haven't eaten a lot of shortbread, as waist sizes are only available from 24 to 30 inches. The standard length is 16 inches. Since one wears this kilt lower than the standard kilt, the length measurement is from below your navel.
Choose a size for your Billie skirt (no need for the measurements below, but be sure to choose a tartan!)
Hostess Skirt - $250 Shall we dance? Whether you are dancing to MacLeod's Fancy or the Dundee Whaler, you'll be positively in-step with the floor-length hostess skirt, jabot blouse, and sash (available seperately).
Measure your girth in inches: Measure at the belly button. Usually larger than your pant size. Please do not hold your tummy in when taking this measurement.
Measure your hips in inches: Make sure this measurement is taken very loosely at the widest part of the seat. Please empty pockets when taking the measurements. There will be a 25% surcharge if your hip measurement is over 46 inches wide. (We all know that the wider the hips, the better the swing of the Kilt.)
Check here if your measurement is over 46 inches.
Measure the length in inches: Note: Max length for miniskirt is 18 inches. While standing, measure from the top of the hip bone (even with belly button) to the top of the kneecap. The kilt should only come to your kness.
